WorkKeys is a system for
measuring the skills required in the everyday workplace.
Why should students use WorkKeys?
WorkKeys is an employability
skills assessment tool from ACT, designed to help students
develop better workplace skills. WorkKeys measures skills that
are critical to job success, such as reading, math, and locating
information. These key employability skills were identified by
ACT through consultation with employers, educators, and experts
on employment and training requirements.
By participating in these
WorkKeys Skill Assessments, students can document employability
skills, provide employers with evidence of skills attained,
identify personal education training needs, document skill
development over time, and/or identify jobs which match current
skills.

Why should employers like
WorkKeys?
WorkKeys helps to improve
America's workforce by sharpening the workplace skills of
employees. Employees can be placed in jobs where they can be
more successful. This system benefits individuals, businesses
and educators by providing a common language for describing
basic skills needed for jobs. (http://www.keytrain.com/wrkover.asp)

How does the LTC WorkKeys
Skills Upgrade Training program work?
Skill areas: The most
fundamental skill areas are Applied Mathematics, Locating
Information, and Reading for Information. These skill areas are
referred to as the Core Skills because they are required by
most jobs.
Skill Levels. Skill areas
are broken down into skills levels. As the levels increase, the
skills become more complex. For example, an individual whose
skills are at a Level 3 in the skill area Applied Math can solve
problems that require a single type of operation, such as
subtraction, multiplication, or division. An individual at a
Level 4 in Applied Math can solve problems that require up to
two operations.
Program Steps: LTC
students that utilize the WorkKeys System must first take the
ACT WorkKeys Readiness Screening. The Readiness Screening is a
40 minute assessment that determines if the student(s) has Level
3 skills in the skill areas of Applied Math and Reading for
Information. Only if a student passes the Readiness Screening,
can he/she immediately participate in the ACT WorkKeys
Assessments.
If the student does not pass the
Readiness Screening, he/she should enroll in LTC WorkKeys
skills upgrade training courses in sequence. Once the student
has successfully completed the required skills and skill levels
(based on the enrolled program), he/she can then participate in
the ACT WorkKeys Assessments.
The computer-based assessments
determine which levels the student actually has and will also
determine the levels listed on the Louisiana Work Ready
Certificate. Each of the computer-based assessments are timed
with a 55 minute limit. Scores are processed within 30 minutes
of completion. A request for Official WorkKeys Skill Reports
and the Louisiana Work Ready Certificate is processed once the
student receives qualifying scores.

KeyTrain is the complete
interactive training system for the WorkKeys basic workplace
skills. KeyTrain provides a comprehensive learning system for
common skills required by all jobs, based on ACT's WorkKeys
employment system. (
